San Antonio (June 3, 2013) – Gallery 23 at The University of Texas at San Antonio’s University Center will host “Synthesis,” an exhibition of fiberglass and resin sculptures from UTSA alumna Jessica Ramirez. Free and open to the public, the exhibit runs June 3, 2013- August 2, 2013. Guests may meet the artist at a reception on Thursday, June 13th from 4:00p.m. – 6:00p.m.
“Synthesis” is a series of fiberglass/resin sculptures inspired by landscapes in nature.
“With this series, I created an elating environment where my fiberglass/resin sculptures interact in space. Fiber is a flexible, textural medium creating undulating, tactile sculptures. I referenced landscapes for inspiration, mimicking natural mounds and sharp cliffs.” Ramirez says. “My work is a mixture of organic shapes and industrial apparatuses that are aesthetically pleasing and dangerously inviting.”
Ramirez earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Houston in Studio Art Sculpture, and a Master of Fine Arts degree at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Currently, Ramirez serves as a Lecturer in the subjects of sculptures and art appreciation at St. Philip’s College in San Antonio, Texas.
